Why do I spend so much time fangirling old men?

"Why do I spend so much time fangirling old men? Yeah, that's the life of a Snape fan and a Cure fan."

So goes the Snapecast Episode 27. I have no idea what "Cure" is, but fangirling old men? Oh yes, I understand a little too well. I'll take wrinkles and greying hair over muscles and toothy grins anyday. There's nothing quite like the charm of a grandfatherly old man who lives life at a snail's pace. A new store opened up near my dorm last week, and on my first trip there, my cashier was a staid, methodical man in his seventies or eighties with very little hair to speak of. The sight alone of his calm movements and slow smile gave me a glow that I couldn't shake for the rest of the day. Part of the attraction is the wisdom gained through experience of course, and part of it is simply mystery garnered through age. A larger part is even a motherly instinct to protect and to cherish. But just try explaining this to any peer of mine, and at best, you'll get an uncomfortable "Okay."

It's weird. :D I get it.

Other highlights of the podcast:

[Deathly Hallows SPOILERS]
Commentators speaking to WB about the DH movie:
"When you're doing batman!Snape, really milk it for all it's worth. You know, get John Williams in there...to play Batman."
*laughter*
"And the Snape-shaped hole better really be Snape-shaped. Like, you need to see the nose."
"That would be cool. If a Snape-shaped hole wasn't, like, the shape of his body; it was just a giant nose outline."
*laughter*
"It's like a Zorro sign, except his nose."
"Then we might have to sue the WB for trademark infringement. They take our nose without rightfully compensating the guna (?)."
...
"Who's going to be Albus Severus? That's a good question."
"Just a random little kid."
"Well, Albus Severus in fanfic has kinda become, like, you know, the next Snape. You know, he's always Harry's son, but he has a little bit of Slytherin in him. And so, maybe they could find a kid with a little hooked nose and black hair."
"You know, I didn't pay much attention in biology in high school, but I don't think your genetics are attached to your name."
"Albus Severus is a magical baby, though. He was born between Snape and Harry, and Ginny isn't his mom. God. Don't you guys know anything? Didn't you read the book?"
"Oh. And I thought that was memory that leaked out of Snape's face."
"Eww. That is nasty."

XDDDD What a tribute to Snarry that is.

And Severus Snape himself, in the voice of the inimitable Alan Rickman, sent in an angry grievance to the podcast:

"To the miserable Muggles who are ruining my afterlife,

In January, to my great relief, I learned that you were taking a break from torturing the masses with your ridiculous travesty of a wireless program. Unfortunately, rumor has reached me that you have returned to your elt (?) ways. And so I am contacting you regarding a persistent problem caused by your reckless negligence. I have of late been harassed by a representative of the economic revenue services, or some such Muggle bureaucracy, regarding Snapecast's long overdue taxes. It would appear that my being dead, however inconvenient, does not constitute an adequate excuse for your unpaid taxes. This situation is unacceptable. I refuse to allow my afterlife to be mobbed by your fiscal incompetence. Settle this matter immediately, or your next hiatus will be a permanent one.

Severus Snape."

Rickman's voice. Guhh. The way he enunciates and drawls and drags through each syllable strikes me dumb. Has me gaping and drooling and mad with worship. Listened to this section six times straight and then vainly tried using it as background music while working on physics. Don't know what I was thinking. If I want to concentrate, playing Rickman's voice is NOT the way to do it.

Finally. *squeak* I liked the ending song. XD

"He can kill with a curse, he can wound with a sneer;
He can ruin your dreams with his silvery deer,
And he showed us much more than we wanted to see.
He cries like a wuss, but he's always a bastard to me.

He would suffer for love, he will never receive it;
He insists on the truth, but he'll never believe it,
And he'll do what you ask though he might disagree.
Yeah, he acts like an ass, but he's always a bastard to me.

Oh, he takes care of his debts; he can snark if he wants;
He is still pretty good.
Oh, and he isn't a saint, and he isn't a stooge;
He's just misunderstood.

And he'll keep all his grudges, he cannot forgive,
And he can't give you much 'cause there's not much to give;
He was only the best and the worst he could be.
Play the hero yourself 'cause he's always a bastard to me.

Oh, he takes care of his debts; he can snark if he wants;
He is still pretty good.
Oh, and he isn't a saint, and he isn't a stooge;
He is just misunderstood.

He is frequently snarky and suddenly gentle;
He can carry a torch but he's not sentimental,
And he can't be ignored - this is one guarantee,
And the most he would do is throw in, "So said you," but he's always a bastard to me."

Forgive me the Snapeful post!

Word re: old men. I feel such a perv ogling my friends' grandpas...

I haven't listened to the latest episode yet. No time, alas, and I want to enjoy it fully, not listen with one ear when commuting, you know?

You surely aren't saying this time it was actually Alan Rickman doing Snape's voice? Or was it plain ol' Chris who gave you such a good time? *leers* Anyway, he's doing a wonderful job, isn't he? Has the Snepevoice/Rickmanvoice spot on. Prolongs the articulation of some of the vowels, speeds up when you don't expect it, stresses the sybilant sounds. Guh. A roller coaster for the ear!

*blush* Looks like my ignorance has been caught out! Was that Chris imitating Rickman? If it is - WOW. It does sound different now that I know to look for it, but clearly, I wasn't able to distinguish on my own his voice from Alan Rickman's, and that's probably one of the highest compliments anyone could pay!

*squee* Let me know when you listen to it! I actually haven't been following the Snapecast, but this episode was thoroughly enjoyable.

And I'm relieved I'm not the only one with a grandpa-obsession. (Dumbledore? Gandalf? Anyone?)

Well, he can be very convincing, that's for sure :)

Right now I've fallen behind on this show (I stopped listening sometime around episode 15) but I will rectify it in summer - it's perfect when hiking ;)

I used to follow Snapecast pretty religiously last year and remember some very good imitations from the early episodes - I'm sure back then, aside from regular Snape, Chris imitated Hagrid, Dumbledore and Lockahrt, did a spectacular Lucius (with a faux-French accent! Definitely worth listening to!) a very Fiennes-like Voldemort... And I know there were more. If you don't have time to catch up with 20+ past shows, you can check transcripts on their Livejournal page, see who's on the agenda in the Owl Post segment of each episode and downlowd only those episodes that sound most interesting.
